NS 5192
Title:  NS 5192
Description:  Apparently this high hood was not part of the set off at East Wayne. Usually all standard cab power is. Must be heading to Bellevue.

NS 5192
Title:  NS 5192
Description:  HUGO seemed like it would be a good spot to sit for a while since there were trains coming in almost every direction on both the New Castle District and the Huntington District at the time, so I had us hold oif these (much to AJs displeasure. Photographing GEVOs is the work of the devil apparently). We sat for some time before we heard NS DN14 key up the FTW Terminal Dispatch telling him they were clearing up off the GR&I ready to head back toward East Wayne with NS 5192 as the sole unit. Despite there being inbound trains coming at HUGO, there was no way we were going to miss an opportunity to see two high hood leaders outside of yard service in the same day. We raced up through the increasingly heavy traffic to the parking lot for the Journal Gazette on the northwest side of downtown just down from CP Runnion. There, the tracks cross the Saint Joseph River on a large trestle. I had never shot at this location before, and it made me quite excited to see that we had beaten the train before it took off and Id finally be able to mark this shot off my list. Minutes later, NS DN14 took off toward New Haven and the short chase to home base was on!

Title:  NS 5192
Description:  NS DN14 approaches Four Mile before entering East Wayne Yard. The crew was pretty obvious at this point that there train was a hit, and the conductor trainee decided to step out to get some photos taken of himself.

NS 5192
Title:  NS 5192
Description:  Fortunately for us, todays DN14 had to pull through and back down into East Wayne Yard, which gave us an opportunity to shoot it by Central States on the east side of the yard. Pretty neat seeing two high hoods working outside of yard duty on the same day! Not something that happens too often anymore.

NS 5231 and NS 5192
Title:  NS 5231 and NS 5192
Description:  There arent a lot of places on the NS system where you can find something like this anymore. East Wayne happens to be one of them for now. High hoods are a common sight around New Haven, but two of them together is quite a rarity.

Title:  NS 5192
Description:  NS 5192 sits dead at the fuel racks. Ditchlights are now gone, so my guess is its days are over.
