Description:  Craig and I had been planning a Deshler day for a few weeks, and the day was finally here. The morning started out sunny and crisp. We got a little bit later of a start than we were hoping, so we ended up beginning our day on CSX at Defiance. That ended up being the right choice as M367 was coming west with a SD70MAC leader, and it was already west of Deshler. Eastbound traffic was to come first, however. We worked west out of Defiance to get away from shadows still covering the tracks and caught CSX I168 to start our day, which also had a SD70MAC leader. Looks good in that golden light!

Description:  I knew I028 was coming north with a SD70MAC on the front for a long time, but it took forever to show up where I was. Apparently a detector had hit it around Woodland and it had to stop for a while. During the 2 hour wait, nothing else showed up where I was sitting at Grant Park. Since I had a decent leader and good light, I decided to call I028 the final train of the day, and grabbed a shot with the new 23 Trailblazer in the frame. The GPS had me home at 10:30 and I decided I wanted to drive home in some daylight. A slow, but very fun day!

Description:  The IERR worked the transload for much longer than either of us had expected, which allowed M360 to continue from McGoingle and head west. Once we heard it trip the detect about three miles away and the IERR was still working, we decided to take a gamble and head out to 9 Mile Road west of College Corner. The gamble paid off, despite us almost nearly not making it, as M360 was a pair of SD70MACs. Unfortunately, it began to rain, which made the train very backlit. But, we still nabbed some nice frames of the train coming by a small farmstead.

Description:  I had also been tracking a CSX SD70MACe leader on the Indy Line this morning on the front of CSX M332. I thought about going south to Sidney to grab it while I waited for the CFE to work Upper. Well, since they ended up going all the way to Crestline, that put me right by the Big 4. I shot a text to a buddy to ask where it was, right when I heard them key up dispatch saying they were ready to blast from Crestline. I assumed that the CFE would take a while to run around their train and continue west, so I took a gander and went into downtown Crestline to shoot M332. Backlit, but definitely another great catch for the day!

Description:  After C895 passed, one of the very classic "lull periods" hit, and I went about 2 hours without a train. Finally, scratches of life came over the scanner. I moved down to the QI 159 intermediates outside of Pasco, which already had replacements sitting just to the right of where the trilights stood. All that needed to be completed now was the new signals to be put up and cut over on the new wiring and box. These definitely appeared that they would be the first to go. Soon, CSX M363 came out clearly over the radio, and I was quite pleased to hear the welcoming sound of an EMD turbo charging my direction. A rebuild CSX SD70MAC is the sole leader on todays M363

Description:  Today marks Day 5 of our Galesburg RR Days Outing. This morning we went to church and started heading back east towards home today. The original goal was to follow the Mendota Sub east out of town to Mendota where we would end the day, but plans changed that as trains began to converge on Galesburg throughout the day. We began the morning by going to church and then starting the day just west of town on the Transcon where there are several older BNSF engines (many of which are in BN or ATSF paint) are being stored, awaiting to be put back into service, or awaiting a scrap yard. It would have been awesome to have gotten closer to these engines, but this was the closest I was able to get.
