All along the ATSF were old gas houses that were once used by Sonoco to pump gas through the area. Many of the buildings are still left standing after many years of being abandoned and they make for excellent props for trains coming by. We went over to Kernan, IL where one still stands. We were lined for a westbound train to come. Over an hour and twenty minutes pass and it finally comes. No eastbounds during that time either. Thats pretty unusual for a line as busy as the Transcon. And of course right before it came it began to rain fairly steadily again, so I didnt get the shot I wanted exactly but it was going to have to work. A westbound Z train rips by us with a pair of NS units in trail. |
