WE 4001
Title:  WE 4001
Description:  I knew there was a crew heading out to Navarre to catch a "dead in the water" WE 625 later that morning, and with nothing happening on the west side of the yard, I decided to move into Navarre to see if I could find the train at a different location that I had never shot at before. Navarre hosts a pretty neat S-Curve on the west side of town so thats where I decided to set up shop. It didnt take long for the train to make its appearance. I was hoping the local would be "push-pull", but it was even worse; both on the head end, long hood forward. After starting the day so well, I assumed that everything would go exactly as I had planned the rest of the day. Apparently not. But, its what it is! After this, it was a straight shot down to Dover.

WE 4003
Title:  WE 4003
Description:  I have had my eyes on documenting rare signals this year, in particular tilt boards. The Ohio Central Railroad still operates a handful of these signals at their intersecting diamonds with other railroads. One of which I stumbled across my last visit to Brewster, OH by accident. Because of that, I decided to make a full trip out of it today to finally get a train actually passing it. The RJ Corman and the Ohio Central operate the tilt board on the south side of Justus, OH and operate almost daily to the massive Wheeling and Lake Erie terminal in Brewster to interchange cars. However, according to the local railfans, it is a pretty rare occurrence to manage to capture all 3 short lines running in the same day. Prior to driving out, I was told that RJ Corman had cars to interchange with the Wheeling today and would go OD at 0700 out of New Philadelphia. Unfortunately for me, Brewster is a near 3 and a half hour drive from my house, so I had to leave my house no later than 0330. It was a very tiring drive, but I hoped it would be fulfilling. While the Corman and the OHCR only run one train most days, the Wheeling has several ops that run in and out of the Brewster Terminal in both directions, which would help fill the gap between arriving and seeing the train by the tilt board. It was a foggy morning, and being able to see the railroad tracks and even the road was a struggle, but I managed to arrive in to Brewster around 0700. I had not heard anything from the Corman over the radio, so I decided to sit along the Wheeling to see if I could get some quick morning Wheeling action. Not too long after my arrival, I heard a train preparing to clear a warrant from the east side of the yard. I rushed over there and saw the headlight from WE 625, the night job from Navarre to Brewster, preparing to come back into the yard with a single hopper. WE 4003 was the sole power for todays train. I was quite pleased to see that it was one of the SD40-2s that had the completely black frame. Not a lot of Wheeling SD40-2s have this scheme.

WE 4003
Title:  WE 4003
Description:  A closer shot of WE 4003. I had hoped to get a very foggy morning shot, but the rising sun was quickly burning away the remaining fog that was left. There was some left, however. An automatic switch is thrown and the train continues into the yard. It appears that the stripes on the front have a slightly darker color of orange as well.

CSX 4023
Title:  CSX 4023
Description:  I had a doctors appointment scheduled early in the morning on the north side of Fort Wayne. I was planning to spend the remainder of the day along CSX watching trains since I was already that far north. Which is exactly what I did. I got out of the doctors office earlier than I had expected, which gave me a much earlier start to the day (no complaints from me!). I decided to start my day in Garrett. Things were very dead when I arrived. The L376 had departed eastbound for Defiance and other than that there was nothing else around, minus the Y103 yard job building the M353 pickup. A sole SD40-3 was the power. Not a road train, but a train to start the day nonetheless.

Description:  Back at Brewster, WE 501 works the Brewster Terminal with a remote controlled SD40-2 with the small logo print on the side. After this I decided to call it a day in Brewster. I had gotten my tilt board as I wanted, so I wanted to see if I could get some more rare signals, specifically on the NS Fort Wayne Line and the CSX Greenwich Sub.

CSX 4050
Title:  CSX 4050
Description:  My dad took some interest in following the Indiana Eastern a few weeks back, so I decided to make a Monday on the IERR happen for the both of us. We ended up getting a little bit later of a start than I had hoped, and with the IERR getting an earlier start to their day now than what they did compared to the first time I had chased them south four years ago, I was a bit worried that we wouldnt catch them departing. However, we were both relieved to find that they had yet to go grab their interchange cars from CSX. Speaking of CSX, that was the railroad that was active upon arrival. L425 was departing Connersville eastbound, while M360 was waiting for their arrival at McGoingle. Ever since the L421/425 were reinstated to originating at Connersville, a plethora of different CSX motors have come and gone from the pool, ranging from Geeps to GEVOs. So, we werent really sure what todays L425 was going to throw at us. About a half hour after we got settled in Cottage Grove, L425 came rushing by with a SD40-3/GEVO/Dash 9 trio with a 318 axle local bound for Queensgate Yard in Cincinnati.

CSX 4062
Title:  CSX 4062
Description:  CSX L424 on the Toledo Sub had a YN3 SD40-3 leader today, which I knew would look good by some CPLs. Went to Swanders to check the bracket and it was lit green, so I went down the access road to catch my approaching northbound. Sure enough, it was L424 with the SD40-3 leader.

IC 6250
Title:  IC 6250
Description:  Quite literally right on the tail of A491 was L521. I was hoping we would be able to make the next signal to the east. But, ever since they took out the intermediate west of the Marcellus siding, the next signal would be east of Marcellus, and I knew there was no way we would make it without missing it. Wakelee has a nice curve on the other end of town that trains ease into, so, we decided to settle for that. IC 6250 has called this local "home" for quite some time now, and was once again the westbound leader again today. Signals or no signals, cant go wrong with a Deathstar SD40-2.

Description:  Wider shot of L521. We were hoping the train would be kicking up snow just like the last one. But, it appeared that the other train took care of the new snow.
