Knowing the coal train ahead was going to stop, and another train directly behind them, I decided to try to work west a little bit for C-NAMNMA0-94 (I wasnt sure if there was an outbound ordered, and I didnt want to have to wait for them to come to me somewhere down the line). I missed the head end at the Clover Avenue overpass, but I got the rear end. And the rear end ended up to be the better half of the train anyway! The first MAC of the trip! |

East of Creston, the Creston Subdivision becomes the Ottumwa Subdivision all the way into Galesburg. And while this route definitely has plenty of curves and grades in this part of Iowa, I quickly learned that chasing trains out here is not a very easy task, even though US 34 parallels the tracks pretty much all the way to Galesburg. I wasnt able to get the front end when I got into Afton, but I did get the rear, and thats the most important part of the train anyway. |

I caught up to it again at the US 34 overpass outside of Thayer. The 5th Avenue Wooden Bridge stands in the background. The full 300mm shows a nice view of the train coasting down and back up the hill! |

Unfortunately, going to the curve did cost me the shot at Osceola. But, I did catch up with it enough to pace it a bit into town on US 34. |

The SD70MAC passes underneath the wooden bridge. Most of the wooden bridges over railroad tracks in my neck of the woods have either been torn out or decommissioned. Chances are, I wont be able to repeat a scene like this with this type of engine ever again. |
