Amtrak 5 was the next westbound poised to come my direction. I tried looking for a clear shot with the Ottumwa Generating Station as a backdrop, but I couldnt find any shots where the trees hadnt taken over. So, I decided to head back to the cut along Rock Bluff Road where I had shot the first couple of BNSF trains when I got here. However, when I was driving through Chillicothe, an old grain elevator caught my eyes. Sure enough, it was seated just off the tracks. It appeared to be privately owned now, but I was able to drive back and no one ever bothered me. I needed a bit of elevation, so I steadily hopped up onto the front of the SUV and nabbed this shot of the California Zephyr doing every bit of 79 MPH track speed through town. This was probably one of, if not my favorite shot of the entire trip. Im glad I stumbled across this shot! |
