UP 1417
Title:  UP 1417
Description:  Despite the UP being slow, it was about to get busy, and busy with some very special trains in the mix as well. We thought catching UP 1995 leading yesterday was a solid catch, but a lot of things were about to be added on top of that. UP 1111 was leading a westbound coal drag, a brand new VIA set from Siemens was coming east, and UP 6706, the last active CNW patch unit, was leading a westbound manifest. Since a broad shot would be our best bet for a shot of UP 1111, we decided to head back up to the overpass east of Flagg. Our first train was not UP 1111, however. UP LPG04 came east by the elevator with a solo geep and a very friendly engineer who gave us a pretty good hornshow.

UP 1417
Title:  UP 1417
Description:  We had considered moving at this point, but the horn and eventually the headlight of LPG04 could be heard and seen returning. The train was already back up to trackspeed when it passed us, and another friendly hornshow from the engineer!

UP 1445
Title:  UP 1445
Description:  Some locals were already beginning to set up chairs along the tracks in anticipation of the Big Boys arrival. We talked with them for a bit, and finally UP LSB54 got the light to come back south, which we framed once again by the elevator in Martinton.

UP 1445
Title:  UP 1445
Description:  It turned out LSB54 had some interchange work to do with the TP&W in Watseka, so we got to see the train on the interchange track in town. That was something I had wanted to see for quite some time!

UP 1455
Title:  UP 1455
Description:  I had a green for a northbound after the train went through, otherwise I would have chased it to Beaverville. The signals in town, however, changed from green to red back to green at least 4 different times, which really made me question if I had a train coming or not. I decided to work back south instead of north, and I made the right choice, as the local caught up with me just north of Papineau. I wasnt here for field shots, but this turned out nicely. LSB54 works north with more traffic for the KBS at Saint Anne. They missed each other by about 5 minutes, but I would guess that KBS wouldnt take these cars anyway, even if the UP was there to hand them off right away.

RJCR 3001 and RJCR Y1410
Title:  RJCR 3001 and RJCR Y1410
Description:  Behind me was an end cab switcher and a geep that was recently acquired from the Lehigh Railroad still in Lehigh Railroad paint. Didnt expect to see a fallen flag today! It was unfortunate the Corman wasnt running, but at least that made me a little more confident that Id get home a bit earlier than I had anticipated I would.

RJCR 3002
Title:  RJCR 3002
Description:  I got into Dover with enough time to get a little breakfast and gas before the chase north. While I was hoping to get one of the corporate painted engines on the front of todays train, preferably the end cab switcher, I was a little disappointed to see that one of the Lehigh Railroad Geeps would be the power for todays train. Not only that, but long hood forward... and on top of that, it would be backlit the whole chase north. Weather was calling for clouds all day, but that ended up not being the case. Well, Im no stranger to having to adjust. Not even two minutes after I filled up with gas, the train got a warrant and departed north for Warwick. I grabbed my first shot at 15th Street on the north side of town with some codeline polls still intact.

RJCR 3002
Title:  RJCR 3002
Description:  RJCR CL1, as it is symboled, passes Synergy Sign in Strasburg. In the long run, it was probably a good thing that one of the Lehigh Railroad Geeps was up front, as its sister unit, 3001 is currently in the process of being repainted into corporate RJC paint. This one is next.

RJCR 3002
Title:  RJCR 3002
Description:  CL1 crosses over the Ohio Central branch line to Brewster from Coschocton on the south side of Justus. The diamond is still activated by an ancient "tilt board" signal. It is automatically set for RJ Corman movements. Only the OHCR turns the board when they have a train that crosses through. When I was here a few years back, I was fortunate enough to see an Ohio Central train work the tilt board.

Description:  Then finally, just as quickly as it began, the chase ended as CSX gave the Corman almost immediate permission into the Warwick Yard. I grabbed a shot of the train coming around the corner with the Warwick Tower to the left, and began heading back west along CSX. Didnt go quite the way I had planned it to, but still, a great first chase on the Cleveland Line!

CFE 3023
Title:  CFE 3023
Description:  Today I decided to test my luck with a CFE Road train passing the PLs since I had no luck with the local the other day. When I arrived both eastbound and westbound road trains were in the yard, but nothing was moving. However, it didnt take too long before the Fort Wayne crew jumped into the eastbound and took off. Here they are passing Dalton Corp. on the east side of Warsaw.

CFE 3023
Title:  CFE 3023
Description:  To my delight, the crew picked the pair of former GTW GP40-2s to take back to Lima with them. I decided to head further east to try to find a place where there was plenty of ice still sticking to the trees. There wasnt much, but I did find one spot that was workable at Geradot Road east of Maples. About a 15 or so minute wait went by in the crazy cold wind, and the train came blowing by doing every little bit of 40 MPH track speed.

CFE 2132 and CFE 3024
Title:  CFE 2132 and CFE 3024
Description:  Today my dad and I started Day 1 of our 6 day outing to Galesburg Railroad Days. My dad has done this every summer for 20 years now but this is the first year that I have ever gone, and we sure saw some cool trains! To start off the trip, we began in Fort Wayne. We heard a CFE train get track authority to continue east out of Piqua Yard, but it never showed up. So we decided to just go into the yard to photograph the engines in the yard. Right up front was a pair of orange units patiently waiting for their next assignment.
