Since we missed a majority of the CN trilights with trains, I promised Craig we would get down to the trilights at CP 358 in Butler, so we began moving east. While following US 6, we noticed that Dekalb Agri was loading out a grain train with ILSX 9. Bunge had bought Dekalb Agri from The Andersons a few years prior, and the faded light blue SW was painted black and yellow. This is the second time that Ive managed to catch it loading a train. Pretty neat! The inbound AC44C6M sits over to the side. |

Dark and cold rain meant it was time to call it a day. I had church in the evening anyway so it was time to head back toward Indiana. I stopped at Captain Ds for supper, and afterwards made my way back toward the Hoosier State. I had just enough time, however, to get a quick exposure of the RJC switcher that sits in Spencerville on the old Erie. One day, I hope to see this running. Still have a few things to cover on the Indy Line before the signals wave a final goodbye, but for now, I think I got what I needed. Been a pretty slow, but still pretty good two days of trains along CSX! |

The final RJ Corman op that I had left to shoot around the area was the twice-a-month SPEG operation between Lima and Elgin, OH. This section serves two customers; a foam place in Spencerville and Mercer-Landmark in Elgin. Because it is only the two customers, the train is not ran very often and can be hard to predict when it will run. It seems to be the 1st or 2nd and 4th Wednesday or Thursday of every month though. I picked the very first Wednesday of the month based on some info I had gotten, and sure enough when I arrived the engine was fired up in Lima and ready to head west. I went down to the crossing just west of where it was parked. Soon enough, I heard it blow for the crossing, but there was no movement. The engineer keyed up the conductor who was driving in his car and told him that he couldnt build any amps on the engine so he was going to restart. The restart did not work either. And with that, the conductor came back and grabbed the engineer, the train was tied down, and it didnt move the rest of the day. As disappointing as that was, Lima still has plenty of other action going on around it usually, and CSX seemed fairly busy at the moment, so I decided to head north to get some CPL shots. Thankfully, I did manage to get one shot of the Corman spilling exhaust where it was parked at East Town Road. |

Got news that today should be another SPEG day. With the weather forecasted to be nice, I decided to use my New Years Holiday from work and head east. The unit was parked in Elgin and I was hoping for a run all the way to Lima. When I arrived, the sun was just beginning to rise. The unit was parked right by Mercer Landmark, which also happens to be right across the tracks from the Elgin park. I stood on top of the slide to get some golden light shots. |

For the longest time Cargill utilized a solo ALCO to do their switching work. However, fairly recently, the grain elevator leased an end cab switcher and a GP15-1 to work alongside the ALCO. I did see the ALCO, but unfortunately it was too far back to get any photos of it. |
