OHCR 3305
Title:  OHCR 3305
Description:  The 3 units cross the RJ Corman and continue into Brewster Yard limits. I find myself pretty lucky to have two of the OHCRs rarest engines on the same train!

OHCR 3305
Title:  OHCR 3305
Description:  With 79 rock cars in tow and a single lumber car bringing up the rear, OHCR CNL1 comes back east out of the WE Brewster Terminal and back to home rails by the ex-NKP seachlight guarding the diamond with the RJ Corman. Ive always found the diamond at Justus to be quite interesting. B&O CPLs guard both sides for the RJ Corman, while on the WE side, a vader dwarf guards eastbound movements while this searchlight signals guards westbound movements. Cant find a lot of diamonds like that in the US!

IORY 5016 and OHCR 4023
Title:  IORY 5016 and OHCR 4023
Description:  We began to get a little nervous when we heard a TA ring out over the scanner from the CIND frequency around the Rushville area. We kicked it into high gear and made it into Greensburg. We crested the hill at the Honda Plant and to our relief the engines were still there preparing to hook onto their train.

Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  The engines roll back to the outbound train and pose in front of the plant. For an early October Day it was quite warm and a lot of heat waves formed in the shot, but I will take what I can get. Tj and I then moved into Greensburg to fin a place to sit and begin the chase.

OHCR 4023
Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  We found an excellent spot by an old brick warehouse framed with the Greensburg water tower in the background. We had the shot all planned out. However, right as the train tripped the crossings, a dum truck thought he could make it across but chickened out at the last second. Shouldnt have even tried to begin with. I had a feeling if this photo didnt go right that there were more problems down the road. I will take what I got though.

OHCR 4023
Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  TJ and I went straight into Batesville where we decided to park shop at the Hill-Rom. Hill-Rom is one of the leading manufacturers of hospital beds and other medical technology in the United States. The train passes underneath an air duct here and I thought that would make for a nice prop. We waited and waited and waited and waited and the train never showed up. After getting fed up of waiting we drove to the other side of town. Sure enough, the train was parked at the Mulberry St. crossing. The train had once again been thrown into emergency. We heard over the radio this time from the conductor that it was the rear car that was the issue and apparently the train was experiencing bad air slip. They sat for almost two hours in this spot before continuing on.

Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  We decided to get food at Dairy Queen and of course that is when the train began to leave. Thankfully we were able to make it back to Hill-Rom just in time to grab them. I wasnt sure if we could keep out ahead of them so we went with the safe alternative and shot the train on the shadow side. It is now beginning to get much later than we had anticipated.

Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  Due to the consistent airslip the train was now only moving at restricted speed, which along a 25 MPH mainline is about 10 MPH given what this train was going. The train slowly approaches CR 600E southeast of Morris, the neighboring community for Batesville.

Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  Finally an opportunity presented itself for me to get a shot of the better OHCR unit in todays 5 unit consist. While I would have rather had this one leading (just due to the better looking nose logo) Ill certainly take what I can get when it comes to a maroon and yellow SD40-2 on the lead of a train.

OHCR 4023
Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  The train backs down far enough to get a wider frame with the elevator. The sun has completely set now, and a lot of the other fans are heading their separate ways toward home. I was invited to grab some pizza at the East of Chicago Joint downtown by a friend who had been taking photos in the group. It was good to get to sit down with him as I usually only get to see him once or twice a year if that. After that, we parted ways, and I went home. What. A. Day. ! Definitely hope to get a train on this stretch of track again soon, and also get the 4023 leading on other parts of the CFE!

OHCR 4023
Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  And just like that it was time for the real highlight of the day. I had posted about this train on Facebook earlier in the day, and all the fans from the area came flocking to the PRR to see this very rare occasion. I wasnt very sure about it at first, but I was convinced by a friend to grab the train at West Yard again, where an original PL Signal guards the eastbound movements. Im glad he convinced me too, as this shot turned out to be one of my favorites from the whole trip. I bet theres not a lot of railfans out there that can say theyve shot an OHCR by these signals! Just like that, the chase west was on!

OHCR 4023
Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  This took some real determination to get to, but I ended up managing to get to East Colsan to grab the train passing the PL signals there. The original heads were removed from the bridge by Conrail, but the bridge itself still stands. Conrail replaced these signals with trilights, but had recently been replaced again by the CFE with PL heads, made just down the road at Mead Electronics in Bucyrus.

OHCR 4023
Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  I was convinced that CFE 14 would be held up by NS again at Colsan, so I went to the grain elevator east of town to grab the train passing it. I hadnt heard them key up NS to get across, so I called a friend, and sure enough NS let them right across, so they were still out in front of me. I knew there was no way I would be able to get back out ahead of it before it began doing its work at Upper, so I decided to just drive directly there. Sure enough, I found the train, and a ton of other rail photographers.

OHCR 4030
Title:  OHCR 4030
Description:  My next attempted shot for CFE 08 was going to be by the turned PLs on the east side of Ada, OH. When I crossed the IORY tracks at Sugar Street I could see the LSL building. Low and behold, the leader definitely was not orange as I could see the nose of the lead engine was yellow. That meant the leader was one of the LTE SD50s or one of the OHCR units. Regardless, the train was still building, so even if I did decide to come back for it I knew I should have a little time. I raced out to Ada and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. And after ages of waiting, the LSL got track to Tremont with the OHCR 4030 on the front. Ive always had such terrible luck getting the OHCR units leading the LSL, so I decided to drop my chase with CFE 08 and head toward the DT&I to chase the LSL to Tremont. I decided to go south since I wasnt sure how much headway it would make since I was a solid 20 miles east of the tracks. I decided to go south of Saint Johns, OH to the very, very tiny unincorporated town of Slater, OH where I set up shop beside some derelict DT&I codeline. After some waiting, the train appeared around the corner, with not only one, but both OHCR units, the tunnel motor, and two orange units. I think I made the right choice coming here!

OHCR 4030
Title:  OHCR 4030
Description:  Next shot was Jackson Center, where I set up shop just south of Plastipak. Rainwater tends to gather in the ditch right beside CR 22 so I figured a relection shot would make for a nice frame. Unfortunately for me the puddle was bigger than what it looked and the grass was also taller than it appeared, so not only did the reflection not come out well, but the camera focused on some blades of grass instead of the train. Oh well, sometimes that happens!

Description:  And just like that the chase southbound portion of the chase was over, and we prepped to shoot the northbound. The same power from yesterdays LSL (minus the OHCR 4023 of course) is the power for the northbound. Not sure why they would drop the OHCR 4023 considering it was the last unit in the consist facing north yesterday. Our interest in the train had dropped significantly, but we still planned to shoot it some. The LSL flops trains with the WCH-B crew at Tremont.
