CFE 2095
Title:  CFE 2095
Description:  Today I went north to Warsaw to chase the westbound CFE Local out of Warsaw in hopes of shooting it by the Pennsy PLs which are supposedly in danger now. Unfortunately I didnt get my way and I soon figured out they wouldnt be running west, rather east to work the industries on the other side of town. I was pooped out on that, so I decided I would spend the day chasing the CKIN. Todays train would sport 2 DMIR painted SD-Ms so that would be a great way to rebound from a disappointing day. I ended up sitting in Warsaw for a good hour before I figured out what the CFE was going to do. During that time, a short lived shower went through, but it created this beautiful rainbow after it cleared, so I got some great rainbow shots with the local power!

CFE 2097
Title:  CFE 2097
Description:  I got reimbursed for not finding the train between Lima and Van Wert when I crossed the Decatur Branch and noticed that the FWDC was still in town. The normal pair of geeps pulled down by IM Power and I was able to get a decent shot with the internal flash. An absolutely spectacular day of railfanning. One that I figured would not completely go to plan. Documented some signals and got some fantastic catches. Until next time!

CFE 2098
Title:  CFE 2098
Description:  Today my dad and I are going up to Northwest Indiana to do some railfanning in the region after we go to a model train show in Hobart, IN. Tomorrow we will go to the Great Midwest Train Show since we were unable to do so in October. The train show in Hobart was pretty nice! I got a N-Scale Chessie System GP9, unmotorized. Afterwards we began our railfanning in Northwest Indiana. Today we plan to go to Pine Jct for the first time. We have heard good things from other railfans around the surrounding areas so we hope to see lots of trains! First though we began our day in Hobart on the CFE. Luckily for us there was a train tied down for the weekend there! The area is under a Winter Storm Watch and there is probably about 6 inches of snow on the ground here now.

CFE 2098
Title:  CFE 2098
Description:  After sitting at the west end of Warsaw (Selby Siding) for about an hour and a half, the westbound crew arrived to take the westbound train toward Hobart. I missed some NS action while out here, one train which had NS 1074 on the head end which I didnt know about until after the CFE train left. After getting a track warrant from NSs Chicago Dispatch, the train prepares to leave and take off west. I had pitched for the one for one of the CP SD40-2's to be leading today, but of course it had to be trailing. Oh well, the sharp orange does look nice in this sunlight!

Description:  After receiving the warrant, the train took off out of Selby and continued west. There have been off and on tiny rain showers all throughout today, and unfortunately I seemed to be caught in one at this moment. Not the perfect sunlight like the last shot.

Title:  CFE 2098
Description:  The train had a speed restriction in Bourbon so they slowed down just a bit. I would assume the speed restriction was for recent trackwork, as the last time I saw a train go through here with my dad, they were rocking at every bit of track speed.

CFE 2098
Title:  CFE 2098
Description:  CFE 2098 would serve as the second unit when the train would be put together and taken back up to Fort Wayne the next day. Tying the train down here has been a more common occurrence in the past year or so due to crew shortages. With that, AJ and I decided to call it a day and head for supper at Wings Etc. in Decatur. After supper we went back to my house and AJ went home. An extremely good day trackside with plenty of good catches and shots taken. I always enjoy showing people from out of town around my neck of the woods and the many things it has to offer for the railfan. A very good day had, until the next one!

CFE 2098
Title:  CFE 2098
Description:  I decided that driving back south to the Indy Line wasnt worth my time so I decided to go into Lima and see what I could find. Low and behold things were all quiet there as well, but I did happen to see the tail end of the CFE Robb Yard transfer getting back onto their own tracks at NS Tower. I made it back to Cole Street Yard Limits just in time to get it passing underneath the distant signal with CSX in downtown. The original PL head has been replaced with this new trilight which has been up for a little over a year now. I was never fortunate enough to get a train under the PL, but at least they didnt replace it with a vader.

CFE 2131 and NS 9320
Title:  CFE 2131 and NS 9320
Description:  While following CF&E, I happened to get lucky just west of Warsaw. Both the 04 and 01 crews were flopping trains with one another in the siding west of town. Todays rendition of CF&E 01 was a CP Corn Train bound for the IORY in Lima. Sadly, todays train had a pair of black and white Dash 9s...

CFE 2131
Title:  CFE 2131
Description:  Yesterday evening, I got word that an rare train with an even more rare leader was going to be running east on the CF&E today. Last week, the FRA Geometry Train ran in to Fort Wayne and would be continuing east the following week. Usually NS provides the power for this train, but somehow, someway, a CN SD40-2W got tacked on the front, and ended up making it this far and would remain on the train well into Ohio. I can bet the former PRR has not seen a SD40-2W leader since NS was regularly running trains along it nearly 2 decades ago, so it was a no brainer to head up to Fort Wayne and make chase of it. When I got up there, the FRA crew members were just arriving onto the property so I had some time to get some photos of some other trains. Surprisingly, a loaded welded rail train was sitting right at the distant PL. While it isnt the best photo, its the first time Ive gotten to shoot a train (though stopped) beside this signal, and it was the final active PRR signal I had to get a shot of that remains on the CF&E side of the former PRR Fort Wayne Line.

CFE 2132 and CFE 3024
Title:  CFE 2132 and CFE 3024
Description:  Today my dad and I started Day 1 of our 6 day outing to Galesburg Railroad Days. My dad has done this every summer for 20 years now but this is the first year that I have ever gone, and we sure saw some cool trains! To start off the trip, we began in Fort Wayne. We heard a CFE train get track authority to continue east out of Piqua Yard, but it never showed up. So we decided to just go into the yard to photograph the engines in the yard. Right up front was a pair of orange units patiently waiting for their next assignment.

CFE 2132
Title:  CFE 2132
Description:  It was still a little to early to get supper at any of the stops along US 30 on the way home, so I decided to go home via Decatur, something I usually dont do when I come home from this direction. Man, am I glad I did though. The closer I approached Decatur I could hear the CFE Decatur Local working. Bunge builds CFEs entire train now, so I knew there was a slight chance if I was hearing this much switching going on that they might be down at Tenki-Plex on the west side of town on a small stretch of the former Erie Lackawanna. I went down there and didnt find them, and I almost gave up, but I looked to my right along US 27 and noticed lights blinking at the Adams Street crossing. I dashed for the tracks and sure enough the train consisting of two geeps and a single car from Tenki-Plex were getting ready to shove back toward Bunge. I quick attached my flash on my D610 and ran toward the depot, and prayed I would be able to get a good shot of the train passing the depot. And, sure enough, I did. In all my life living in this area, there has only been one other time Ive seen a train pass the depot, which was already over five years ago. This day was beyond disappointing, but the small wins scattered in it here and there were so welcome!
