Description:  Just as quickly as the trip came, it went, and we were on our final day. We had to make the long drive from Iowa all the way home today. So, instead of following CP to Clinton like we did in November when we had less daylight to work with, we decided to follow BNSF back instead. We grabbed some breakfast and checked out of the hotel. Almost immediately upon crossing the river, BNSF was sending southbound Q-PTLCHC6-29 through. We got down to the crossing in East Dubuque just in time.

Description:  Eastbound after eastbound continued to roll on NS. I knew I had a NS 880 coming which almost 100% of the time has BNSF power up front. The trees behind the Autozone in Elkhart usually turn a nice deep orange, and thats where I had planned to grab it. However, I overshot my location, and it ended up beating me there. Foolishly, I backtracked to Dunlap to grab a shot of the train navigating through all the MOW that was out and about today, and the deep shadows that still were over the tracks.

Description:  After the Industry 2 chase, it was time to head up toward BNSF Rails at Edelstein. We knew we had a southbound UP coming toward Peoria, but we never ended up finding it. When we got to the Transon, things were a bit slow, which gave us enough time to head over to the park in Princeville to go look at the planet Uranus. After a quick visit, our first westbound of the day was lit up through town. We went over to the bridge spanning over Princeville Road on the west side of town and shot Z-CHIALT8-23 screaming west.

We both got up early and went our separate ways. With the CP/KCS merger now a done deal, it was my goal to try to get several KCS leaders today. However, it was evident BNSF was going to send the most traffic through first, so it was off to the east side of the river. BNSF Z-CHCSSE8-01 begins my day in the pouring down rain at E. Dubuque.

Description:  When the eastbound passed we started to hear the rumble and horn of a westbound train rushing our way. BNSF 6089 leads a westbound intermodel out of Wenona. This would be the final train of the evening. A total of 23 today, so we caught less than 20 on the Transcon which is very unusual for such a busy railroad. The longest day of the year ended up being more like the shortest day of summer do to all the rain. If it wouldnt have been for all the cloud cover that evening we might have been able to stay out longer but it just got too dark. That brings the total number of trains to 67 for the trip. Tomorrow we head out to Galesburg following the Transcon from Wenona to there. Hopefully there are more trains tomorrow!

Sadly while we were waiting on this a westbound intermodel passed on the Transcon with 2 Warbonnets still marked for Santa Fe in train. The Transcon was blocked out by a corn field from where we were sitting so you could only see the tops of the engines.
