We had plenty of NS traffic coming in both directions, so we dashed toward Hagerstown as quickly as we could. Southbound NS 189 was waiting on northbound NS 26C at Walnut Level, so we raced over to the east end of the siding and just barely grabbed NS 26C heading into the siding to meet the eastbound freight. |

The Norwell Girls Basketball Team made the state championship this year, which left me alone on the trip to the Muncie Train Show this year (Dad would be covering it for the Bluffton Newspaper). A fresh snow had fallen overnight, and with it looking like the final snow of the year after this warmer than average Winter that we have been having, I decided to take advantage of it before it all melted away and followed NS south to Muncie instead of going directly there. NS 262 was the first crackle on the scanner, and I paused at the Blackford County Highway Department north of Hartford City for it. Moments later, a fresh rebuilt GE brings the long cut of stacks north through the Indiana Countryside. |

My day of trains wasnt completely over though. When I hopped off of US 24 on the east side of Huntington, I found a loaded coal train stopped at Mardenis. With nothing lined up either direction, I quick hopped out to grab a few exposures of the train. I believe this was NS 798, but Im not positive. After this, it was homebound for me. Arriving home just a little after 11 PM, I had officially been awake for almost 20 hours. These long days sure do take a toll on me, but boy are they fun! A great day with some good friends. |

CSX had two cross at Muncie before I could get into town, so I decided to go to the show after 61C. My buddy Henry met me there and we both looked around together. I ended up buying 5 Hot Wheel Cars and a BP Tanker Truck, while he bought an O-Scale Conrail Caboose. Afterwards, we began our day of train watching. NS 189 was up first, crossing over the 2nd bridge over the White River at CP Bath. |

ILSX 9 and NS 4740 |
Description: |
Since we missed a majority of the CN trilights with trains, I promised Craig we would get down to the trilights at CP 358 in Butler, so we began moving east. While following US 6, we noticed that Dekalb Agri was loading out a grain train with ILSX 9. Bunge had bought Dekalb Agri from The Andersons a few years prior, and the faded light blue SW was painted black and yellow. This is the second time that Ive managed to catch it loading a train. Pretty neat! The inbound AC44C6M sits over to the side. |

NS 4806 |
Description: |
With adequate info enough to follow, I invited my buddy AJ from Dayton up north to my neck of the woods today to photograph the New Era Railroad. Midwest Rail recently purchased the Wabash Central off of RMW Ventures, and as of last November, the railroad has been undergoing some significant and much needed maintenance work and other restorations. Along with the change in ownership, the railroad also underwent a name change, now being called the "New Era" Railroad, signifying a "new era" for the former Cloverleaf. Despite all those changes, the motive power that the Wabash Central left behind is still currently being used on the railroad, and the railroad plans to continue to use the power until further notice. AJ got to my house fairly early and we began our day along NS around 8 AM. NS had some traffic to get through first. NS 262 crosses South Street with a AC44C6M just weeks out of the Wabtec facility in Texas on the front. |

NS 4810 |
Description: |
For the 7th nonconsecutive year, Dad and I were up on the Chicago Line for Labor Day. We always begin our day in Goshen, as Dad likes to attend the Labor Day Toy Tractor Show at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds before we spend the remainder of the day watching trains. While he goes and browses, I stay put by the tracks at Monroe Street and watch the trains roll by. This year, when we arrived, a CP train was already going through, but as soon as Dad left me at the tracks, NS 22X rolled by with a fresh rebuild on the point to start the day. |

The day was coming to a close and I still hadnt made it out of the holds of Goshen yet, but with NS quieting down once again, I had more than enough time to get out. Next stop was Millersburg. The trees are usually pretty nice and with the shadows well across the tracks at this point it really didnt matter what side I shot from. I parked beside a tree that I photographed with a morning eastbound the year prior, and nabbed NS S81 westbound in the same spot. Normally even the extra Detroit Edison coal trains have BNSF power. This one, however, did not. |

NS 4914 |
Description: |
Every year, I do a "Longest Day" trip on the longest day of the year to a hotspot. Most years, I transition from going west one year, then east the next. Since I did Ogden Dunes last year, this year, Fostoria was on the docket; the crossing of two CSX mainlines and 1 NS mainline, and home of the Iron Triangle Railroad Park. It had been quite some time since I had been to Fostoria, and most times that I have been there in more recent memory, it has been quite slow. But, it is the crossing of three different sets of rail lines, so I knew rail action was definitely still high in number. So, I set off early to get my day started there in sunrise. My first train, however, ended up stopping me closer to Findlay than Fostoria. When I crossed the Fostoria District on CR 18, I could see the headlight of NS 29C to the east. Light was just beginning to show, so I decided to make it my first train of the day. A brand spanking new rebuild along with two other NS GEs led the short westbound stack train. |
