Description:  We crossed the massive Mississippi River into Iowa which would be our turning location. When we crossed the bridge we noticed the gates were down on the road where BNSFs seldom used Hannibal Sub continues north to the Burlington. Sure enough, a northbound corn syrup train was heading north. Sadly we werent able to get to the crossing quick enough to get a head on shot, which vould have been nice considering this line sees laybe 2-4 trains a day.

Description:  CSX went extremely quiet, and we didnt end up seeing one the remainder of the day. However, we did follow NS south to Warsaw, where we ran into NS 164 heading north out of the siding at Leesburg after meeting NS 143 there. There was some really great sunset lighting on the tracks right before the train came, but the train came too slowly.

Description:  And just like that, a trip that I had been planning for months had arrived; the Longest Day (albeit, a day late) in Ogden Dunes! I stayed the night at the Holiday Inn in Valpo the night before, and got started around 4:30 AM. A thick fog off the lake made the morning light start a bit later but not even a minute before I arrived at the South Shore station, my first train made its appearence. NS 25G cuts through the fog and starts the day of hopefully heavy rail traffic.

Description:  NS 7623 leads a high speed NS 282 north through Ossian. This would be the final train I would see before NS would shut down the entire system for Christmas Day. Very glad to see that the railroad does this. While it is very good for people to spend Christmas together, remember the true reason why we celebrate this holiday; Our Savior Jesus Christ coming in our place to forgive the sins of the entire world.
