Right when I got out of Muncie, as always, CSX finally lined a westbound and I heard the defect detector in Parker City trip. I quickly raced west to Yorktown and barely beat CSX M331 heading west out of town. Probably wasnt worth it since it was so dark, but Im a sucker for the Indy Line trains. Slow day, but a good day with a good friend. |

But we cant leave the Bluegrass State without a tiny bit of train spotting. First we stopped at Colonel Sanders home town, to not eat chicken, but to view CSXs big Corbin Yard. As you can see by the picture there is a baretable train. an ethanol train. and a grain train ready to get a new crew and head north out of the yard. |

After getting word that a passenger special would be running on the South Shore this morning, Dad and I decided to embark on a trip to Michiana to catch it, along with other trains in the area. We were hoping the further northwest we got, the more color we would run into, but it actually happened to be quite the opposite. That was a bummer, but we decided to make the most we could and see plenty of trains. We got an early enough start that we were able to start outside of the Chicagoland hold along CSX between Teegarden and Walkerton. CSX was fairly busy this morning, and it didnt take long for CSX M370 to come east with a YN2 leader. |

With a free day at hand, I decided to go see my buddy TJ in Muncie and explore what NS and CSX had to offer in the area today with him. One of my main goals was to try to document trains on CSX between Farmland and Muncie, as I already had done so between Quincy and Winchester this year. I decided to head toward Farmland to begin the day. I waited quite a while and finally gave up, but, as it always happens, when I got closer to Muncie, CSX lined an eastbound. I made my way back toward Parker City and grabbed CSX M360 to begin the day, passing the former Big 4 depot and fertilizer depot in town with a pair of YN2 AC4400CWs on the front. |

Just another sign that "Precision Scheduled Railroading" is in full swing. This would be the final train we would catch in photographable light. We ended up seeing NS 289 by the Mall and NS 25A in Hardtford City, both with double NS engines. That would bring the trip total to 16. Pretty busy day today in Muncie! Today, I decided to take TJ and myself to Southern Indiana in attempt to shoot OHCR 4023 leading the CIND Autorack Train from Greensburg back to Valley Jct. I have never explored this territory outside of Valley Jct. and I dont really know what to expect. Since the autorack train doesnt usually depart Greensburg until mid to late afternoon I had some time to sleep in after a hard night at work the night before, and woke up around noon to get TJ in Muncie. I made it around the Daleville/Chesterfield area when I noticed a CSX train had clearance across the NS at Muncie and I had some time to kill. I parked across the McClure Station and soon after CSX Q311 came roaring west with a YN2 leader on the head end. |

Next CSX 559 leads CSX Q386 east by us. This would be our final CSX train before heading up to NS, but this definitely wouldnt be the last of the action on CSX rails. |

CSX 564 backs CSX Q327 into the Blue Island Yard. This would serve as the final train in daylight. The last train we saw for the day was NS 216 on the CFE in Warsaw. Definitely was a fun trip! Only 11 trains compared to the 43 that we saw the day before. A trip total of 54 trains all together. Blue Island was very quiet today compared to what it usually is. It was my first visit to the bottleneck and it didnt impress me at all. My dad was fased in why it wasnt as busy as it usually is. Slow days happen I guess. Anyways, we really enjoyed this trip! Next year we will do it in October again though so it will only be a one day outing as usual. Really enjoyed it and had a fun time! |
