We were going to go up to CSX after the CN train, but a car had gotten itself stuck on the tracks at Walkerton, which pretty much shut the Garrett Sub down. There were no more CN trains either, so we decided to head into Portage to check into our hotel. After getting some supper at McDonalds, we went back into Portage to sit at the CSX diamond between the Garrett Sub and Porter Branches. While sitting down there, we heard a westbound CSS Freight ask for permission through work limits at Burns Harbor. South Shore has been undergoing a major double tracking project, so a curfew had been set in place from 6 AM to 9 PM. So since we knew we wouldnt get a South Shore train tomorrow, we decided to head up to the Ogden Dunes station to see if we could capture it. Even though the sun had set by the time it reached us, we did end up seeing CSS AF4 heading toward Gary to do its work. A really nice way to comeback from such a lousy afternoon! |
